Attention Blog User: There has been a recent outbreak of spam that is sneaking past our spam filters and using the Post Trackback feature. This feature, if enabled on your posts, will allow spam to get in and post comments - those of which no one wants. Since Keith is currently offline and not available, us Community Leaders have taken it upon us to find a temporary solution until Keith can do something. Here's The Fix: You need to go here: http://www.efx2blogs.com/manager/tra...ttings.php and make sure "Trackback Default for New Entries" is set to 'Trackbacks Disabled' in the drop-down menu and also, "Autodetect Trackbacks?" is set to 'Autodetect Disabled' in the drop-down menu. This will disable trackback on all new posts you make. *** If you are apart of multiple blogs, you will need to select specific blog in which the problem is first in the blog control panel.... and then click that link for the settings to appear. *** For previous posts that have been attacked you must Edit that post and just below the Post Edit Box you should see a link "Advanced Post Options" - click that and you should see an option for "Allow Trackbacks?" and make sure it is set to 'No.' -------------------------------------------------------------- Thank you for your participation in this matter and helping us alleviate the problem. - The Community Leaders (leaders.efx2blogs.com) THIS POST CAN BE DELETED.

A comment on Wil's blog brought to mind something I wanted to rant about a bit. Since the comments that particular thread were already straying far and wide, and because I haven't posed in awhile, I figured I'd just start a new post.

thebigp said:

"It's half assed, half baked right wing politicians bending over for the religious right just because they scream louder than those of us who actually value our civil liberties.
"

This made me think of an incident last week with Rush Limbaugh.

Now before I mention this, let me preface this by saying that I think Limbaugh is a blowhard and an embarrasment to his party. I almost never listen to him, and if I do it's because I'm out and about in my car which doesn't have cd player so I can listen to E's wonderful mix cd, so I have talk radio on.

In any case, out of curiosity, were "those who actually value their civil liberties" valuing them much last week with both the Senate and the House took time out of their schedules of running the country to repudiate a talk show host for excercising his right to both free speech and free press?

I mean, i really can't stand the guy, but then again, i can't stand Garafalo any more either and I would never dream of asking my congressman to compose a house resolution to condemn her for being a shrill whiner.

However...in the House, Representative Mark Udall, from Colorado., who is running for the open Senate seat in his state, authored a resolution condemning Rush Limbaugh for comments on his show.

In the Senate, the Senate Majority Leader announced that Democratic leaders had drafted a letter to Mark Mays, president of Clear Channel, the parent company of Limbaugh's broadcast, calling on the network "to publicly repudiate these comments that call into question ('antiwar soldiers') service and sacrifice, and ask Mr. Limbaugh to apologize for his comments."

A few small problems here.

First of all, I was listening to Limbaugh on the day called into question. He didn't call into question the sacrifice of soldiers who've gone on to protest the war. He called into question one fake soldier...a man who is spending 5 months in jail for false claims about his service in his short career as an anti-war activist.

So what they were busy complaining about didn't happen.

Second of all, why is congress condemning a private individual for excercising not one, but two of his civil liberties...that of free speech and freedom of the press?

Lastly, why is the Senate trying to interfere with a private citizen, who's broken no law, by contacting his employer?

Where are the civil libertarians so focused on the right to bare tits in prime time? Where's the outcry of the stomping of our freedom the watchdogs of our rights are so concerned about when it's something the Bush adminstration is accused of, but seem to have turned a blind eye when congress blatantly interferes with a private citizen excercizing his rights?

John Murtha, a member of congress no less, gets to outright call innocent Marines murderers and baby killers before they've so much as stepped foot one into a courtroom, and he gets no rebuke or even a slap on the wrist.

But a blowhard radio jock is accused of saying something and he gets a rebuke from both houses of congress?

Fairness doctorine here we come.

peace,
Aielman

Feeling even less inspired than Wil, so here's his meme that he borrowed from Chica's meme....

Define normal using approximately ten words.
The collective average. Safe...and often, to someone like me, boring.

Would you frame someone else if your friend committed murder?
Depends on the murder, the friend, their motive, and the person available for framing. For instance...I'd frame a friends abusive, wife beating husband for the murder of a pedophile that my friend killed for abusing her son.

But in general...no
.

When is killing justified?
In self defense...in defense of others...or when you need to rid the world of someone who is a drain on the communal oxygen and nothing more.

Is older always wiser?
If it was, we'd have better members of congress and better presidents.

Is body structure a good indicator of personality?
Not at all. I'm fat, but I'm sure as shit not jolly.

Is choice of clothing a good indicator of personality?
Not necessarily...and certainly not just an outfit. You can get an idea over time. But one day, and you may just have hit laundry day or something.

Is choice of friends a good indicator of personality?
Not unless you a large number of them. I have old friends that never grew up that don't tell you a helluva lot about my personality...and others that do.

Are more and more technological advances good for mankind?
I agree with Wil. They are neither good nor bad, in and of themselves. It's how they're used that determines the good or ill to mankind.

Between male and female, which is the weaker gender?
Depends on what attribute you ascribing weakness to. Men have the edge in some things...women in others.

Do you believe in karma or predestiny?
I believe they exist, but not for all things, and neither are absolute..

When you discover that you are angry, what do you do to calm yourself?
It depends on how angry, and over what. Sometimes I just yell about it, and it's basically over with. If I'm really pissed, I can get explosive with the anger and break things if noone is around to get it out...or I'll tune people out and turn on some loud music and listen to it, while I read something until I calm down.

If I'm really enraged, I just bottle it up for awhile...because I can get dangerous when that happens, so I just hold it inside until it fades.

Luckily...it don't hold onto anger for too long...so no matter how mad I get, it's usually over quickly.

When you are sad, what do you do to make yourself feel better?
Usually don't do much of anything. I generally try to keep it to myself unless I'm alone. If I'm sad in front of my family, it tends to be contagious, so I don't like to display it. It's an emotion that pretty easy for me to control.

Do you need a significant other in your life?
No. But I prefer it.

Have you ever truly loved?
I truly love several someons as I write this. I think it's impossible not to truly love someone if they're your child and you look into their eyes the moment they are born.

Is it okay for you to show weakness?
It depends on what type of weakness, to what extent, and to whom you will show it. To an enemy? Never...not unless I'm showing a weakness to draw them into a trap. To someone I trust or love, only if it won't undermine their trust in me. I wouldn't for instance, show weakness to my children...because right now they need to believe in the infallibility of their father.

For a man, it's difficult to show too much weakness in most things to most people because it undermines your relationship with them. Not always, mind you...some people can be trusted with the knowledge that you can be weak about certain things. The same is true for people who are in command in their profession. You can't show much weakness there either, or it can undermine your authority.

Is revenge always the answer when you are wronged?
.

Is revenge ever the answer?
Sometimes. Depends on the situation.

Is everyone like an open book to you?
Not hardly. If people are like books, open or closed doesn't much matter in my case...I tend to be dyslexic.

Does your IQ mean much?
It does to me in terms of judging myself. I hold myself to a certain standard because I know my capacity to learn. But other than that, no, it doesn't mean much. I know some very wise people who don't score to high on intelligence tests, but apply themselves fully. And I know some geniuses that are dumber than a can of spam.

I grant you three wishes.
1. Limited immortality for myself and my family (something similar to the Highlander type...the kind of immortality where you never get sick, you heal from almost any wound. but there's a way to die if you really want to check out)...there's too much I want to do that I won't have time for.
2. Enough wealth to not only have fuck you money...but to be able to have an affect on the world on a large scale in a positive manner.
3. True eiditic memory with 100% total recall. If you could remember anything you read, see or hear perfectly, you could learn every language, remember every detail, and potentially be able to communicate with anyone, not to mention never having to look something up twice.

peace,
Aielman
